A dual-clutch gearbox is mechanically capable of shifting in well under 150 milliseconds. Most leave the factory shifting in two or three times that, because the transmission control unit — the TCU — is calibrated for the comfort of the least interested driver the marketing team could imagine. Soft clutch engagement, early upshifts, a pause-and-think kickdown. The hardware is a fencer; the software makes it curtsy.
A TCU remap recalibrates that behaviour at the source. Clutch pressures are raised so engagement is positive instead of slipped-smooth. Shift points in Drive and Sport are moved to where the engine actually works. Kickdown becomes a decision, not a committee meeting. Torque limits inside the gearbox — which silently clamp many remapped engines — are raised to hold what the engine genuinely produces. And on supported gearboxes, launch control is enabled and set up properly.
The process carries the same discipline as our engine work: health check first (including clutch adaptation values and mechatronic behaviour), original TCU file archived for life, calibration written for your exact gearbox generation, then verified on a road test across all modes. If your gearbox isn't a safe candidate — worn clutch packs, a tired mechatronic — we tell you before any money changes hands.
