Mobile Remapping: How It Works

Mobile remapping means we bring professional diagnostic and tuning equipment to you — your driveway, workplace car park or any flat, safe space where we can work on the car. No workshop queue, no taking a day off to drop the car off. Here is exactly what happens on the day and where we cover from our base in Haslingden.

Mobile ECU remapping equipment set up on a residential driveway in Lancashire
TL;DR

We arrive with the same tools and process as a workshop visit. Diagnostics first, backup your original file, write a custom calibration, verify and hand over. Most jobs take one to two hours. You need a flat parking space, access to the car and ideally a mains extension lead. We cover Haslingden and surrounding Lancashire from our BB4 base.

The Short Answer

Mobile remapping is the same professional ECU or DSG calibration you would get at a workshop — delivered at your location. We set up diagnostic and tuning equipment beside your car, run a full health check, back up your factory software, write a custom map and verify everything before we leave.

It suits anyone who cannot spare time to travel to a tuner: busy commutes, school runs, workplace parking, or simply the convenience of getting it done at home. Across Lancashire, most of our customers outside Haslingden itself book mobile slots.

What Happens on the Day

Our process is the same whether you visit us or we come to you:

  1. Arrival and setup. We park, set up our equipment and connect to your vehicle's OBD port. On a typical Stage 1 remap, this takes a few minutes.
  2. Diagnostic health check. Full fault code scan and live data review. If we find problems that need fixing first, we tell you before writing any file.
  3. Original file backup. Your factory ECU software is read and saved. You can return to stock later if needed.
  4. Custom-written calibration. We write a map built for your specific car — never a generic off-the-shelf file.
  5. Verification and handover. We confirm the write completed correctly, check for fault codes and walk you through what has changed. A short road test may follow if local roads allow.

Most appointments take one to two hours from start to finish. You can wait nearby, get on with your day at home, or carry on working if we are at your workplace.

What You Need to Provide

Mobile remapping is straightforward to host. You do not need a garage — just a sensible space to work safely.

  • Flat, level parking. Driveway, forecourt, quiet car park or kerbside space with room to open doors and work at the front of the car.
  • Access to the car. Keys available throughout. The ignition will need to be on at various points during the process.
  • Power if possible. A mains extension to an outdoor socket helps keep our equipment and your battery stable during the write. If you do not have outdoor power, tell us when booking — we carry battery support options.
  • Safe environment. We need to work without traffic passing inches from the car. A private driveway or allocated bay is ideal.
  • Your VRN and details confirmed. So we arrive with the right approach for your specific vehicle.

Driveway vs Workshop — Honest Comparison

Both deliver the same calibration quality when the process is identical. The difference is logistics, not results.

Mobile advantages

  • No travel time or fuel cost for you
  • Work continues while we tune — ideal for home workers
  • Car stays on your drive overnight if needed
  • Workplace visits fit around shift patterns

Workshop advantages

  • Sheltered from weather — useful in heavy rain or winter
  • Ramp or lift access if deeper mechanical work is needed
  • Drop-off and collect later if you prefer not to wait

Most FLR customers in Lancashire choose mobile for Stage 1 and DSG work. Workshop visits suit anyone who prefers to drop the car off or needs additional mechanical work alongside the tune.

Weather, Power and Safety

UK weather is unpredictable. Light rain is manageable — we use sheltered setups and keep sensitive equipment protected. Heavy rain, standing water or high winds may mean rescheduling for safety. We will always communicate rather than rush a job in bad conditions.

Battery voltage matters during an ECU write. We monitor it throughout and use stabilisers where needed. If your battery is old or weak, mention it when booking — we may recommend addressing it first.

We carry full insurance for mobile work. Your driveway or workplace bay needs to be somewhere we are permitted to work — if it is a managed car park, check access rules before we arrive.

What Mobile Remapping Costs

Our mobile pricing is the same as workshop pricing — no travel surcharge across our standard Lancashire coverage. Stage 1 from £150, DSG from £150, ECU + DSG bundle £275. Diagnostics are included in every standard remap.

Mobile Remapping — Common Questions

Light rain is usually fine with sheltered equipment setup. Heavy rain, flooding or high winds may require rescheduling for safety and to protect your car's electronics. We will always be upfront about conditions on the day.

A private driveway or allocated parking bay is ideal. Kerbside on a quiet residential street can work if there is safe space to work at the front of the car. Busy roads or managed car parks with restrictions may not be suitable — tell us your setup when booking.

We monitor battery voltage throughout the process and use stabilisers when needed. If your battery is old or weak, tell us before the appointment. A failing battery should be addressed before any ECU write.

The car needs to be stationary for one to two hours on average. The ignition will be on at various points but you cannot drive it during the write. Once we hand over, you can drive immediately.

Yes — workplace car parks are one of our most popular mobile bookings. You need a allocated bay or permission to work on site, and ideally access to outdoor power. Many customers book a slot during the working day and carry on at their desk.

We accommodate evening and weekend appointments where scheduling allows. Contact us with your preferred times — local Haslingden and Rawtenstall slots tend to fill fastest, so booking ahead helps.
