Here's what the DPF warning light actually means: the filter has collected more soot than the car has managed to burn off. The interesting question is why regeneration keeps failing — and it's rarely the filter's fault. School-run duty cycles that never get the exhaust hot enough. A pressure sensor reading nonsense, so the ECU mis-models the load. A thermostat stuck open, keeping the engine too cool to regenerate. An EGR or injector problem making more soot than any filter could cope with.
So the session starts with data, not a sales pitch: soot load actual versus modelled, regeneration history and abort reasons, differential pressure behaviour, temperatures through the system. That tells us which of three situations you're in — a filter that needs a forced regeneration (a controlled, supervised burn-off we run from diagnostics), one that's beyond regen but restorable with professional cleaning, or the rare genuine end-of-life unit. And critically, it tells us the root cause to fix so the problem stays fixed.
What about removal? For motorsport, off-road and export vehicles only, DPF software solutions exist and we engineer them properly. For road cars, the answer is no — removal fails the MOT's visual and smoke checks, voids insurance, and carries fines that dwarf any repair bill. Anyone who'll delete a road car's DPF "no questions asked" is selling you their problem. We'd rather save your filter — it's better engineering and it's the only version that's legal where you drive.
