Here's the insight the "economy tune = slow car" myth misses: an engine burns least when it's relaxed. If useful torque arrives at 1,500 rpm instead of 2,200, you upshift earlier, cruise lower, and stop flexing your right foot to wake the thing up. The engine does the same job at lower revs and smaller throttle openings — and the fuel flow follows. That's the entire physics of an economy remap, and on turbocharged diesels it works beautifully.

The calibration work targets exactly that: torque filled in hard at low rpm where diesels are most efficient, injection timing and pressure refined for cleaner combustion at cruise, throttle mapping smoothed so motorway speed is held with less pedal noise, and the flat spots that trick you into over-driving removed entirely. Peak power stays close to standard — this is about how the power arrives, not how much exists.

The honest caveats, up front: results depend on your right foot — a remap can't out-calibrate a driver who treats every junction as a launch event; turbo-diesels respond best, petrol turbos respectably, small NA petrols modestly; and the savings maths works hardest for high-mileage drivers. The Questions High-Milers Ask

On a healthy turbo-diesel driven with any sympathy: 6–12%, with most owners landing around 8–10%. Turbo petrols typically see 5–8%; small naturally-aspirated engines less, and we'll say so before taking your money. The variables that matter are your engine type, your mileage mix and your right foot — motorway-heavy diesel miles bank the most.

No — this is the happiest surprise of the service. Peak figures stay close to standard while low-rev torque rises substantially, so the car feels stronger in everyday driving: easier hill climbs, fewer downshifts, relaxed overtaking. Economy comes from the engine working less hard, not from the engine being made weaker.

All emissions hardware and software stays completely intact and active — this calibration refines combustion efficiency and changes nothing about the after-treatment systems. MOT emissions testing is unaffected. In fact, a torquier low-rev calibration driven at lower revs tends to be kinder to the DPF's regeneration cycle, not harder on it.

It's arguably the best one. Towing lives and dies on low-rev torque, and that's exactly what this calibration adds — up to 25% more, arriving around 500 rpm earlier. Gradients that demanded third gear take fourth; the engine stays calmer and cooler under load; and the same physics that helps the fuel bill helps the towing experience. Mention the caravan when booking and we'll bias the file accordingly.

Yes — any change to the engine's calibration is a modification, even one aimed at efficiency rather than speed. Most insurers treat economy remaps benignly, but they need to know. You'll leave with the written spec sheet that makes the phone call simple, and your original file stays archived with us for life should you ever want the car returned to stock.
