EGR is a trade the engineers made on purpose: recirculating a measured dose of exhaust lowers combustion temperature, which slashes NOx — at the cost of feeding the intake a steady diet of soot. Over tens of thousands of miles that soot bakes onto the valve, the cooler and the inlet manifold. Eventually the valve sticks — open, closed or lazily in between — and the symptoms begin: rough idle, hesitation, smoke, limp mode, and warning lights that come and go with the weather.
The diagnosis matters because EGR codes lie by association. A "flow insufficient" code might be the valve, the position sensor, a vacuum actuator, a blocked cooler or a split hose — five different bills. Our session commands the valve through its range on live data, compares requested against actual flow, checks the sensor's story against physical behaviour, and inspects what the data implicates. You get the actual culprit named in writing, with the repair quoted: cleaning where carbon is the problem, repair or replacement where hardware has died.
And the delete question, answered straight: for motorsport, off-road and export vehicles, EGR-out software is legitimate engineering and we do it properly — calibrated around the change, no fault-masking hacks. For UK road cars it risks MOT failure under emissions testing and invalidates insurance, so the answer is no. The honest fix for a road car is the repair — and done properly, with the cause addressed, it doesn't keep coming back.
