We Identify Your Vehicle
Your registration is matched against the same professional tuning database we use to quote real jobs — engine variant, ECU and gearbox. No reg to hand? Describe the car manually and the check runs exactly the same.
Enter a UK registration (optional) and run a guided systems check. We tell you — honestly — whether a Stage 1 is a good idea, what to fix first, or when to leave it stock. Free, 60 seconds, no waffle.
Enter your registration — or start a manual check — and Pre-Flight walks five vehicle systems with you. At the end: a straight verdict and the right next step, not a sales pitch.
A remap readiness check does in a minute what a good tuner does on the phone — asks the awkward questions before taking your money.
Your registration is matched against the same professional tuning database we use to quote real jobs — engine variant, ECU and gearbox. No reg to hand? Describe the car manually and the check runs exactly the same.
Warning lights, DPF behaviour, how the car is driven, mileage, clutch or gearbox feel, what you use it for, finance and insurance, and what you actually want from a remap. One screen at a time, no jargon.
Your answers run through the same decision logic we apply in the workshop. Active faults stop a remap dead. DPF stress, clutch wear and finance questions get flagged honestly — every reason written in plain English, not a black-box score.
CLEAR means get a Stage 1 quote. ADVISE means a health check first, then tune. HOLD means book diagnostics at £40 — a remap on top of a fault is how engines get expensive. Sometimes the honest answer is “don't remap this car”, and we say that too.
These are the five systems Pre-Flight walks through — the same ones we look at before writing a single file.
Engine management lights, limp mode and stored faults. An ECU already protecting itself is telling you something — tuning over the top of it masks the symptom and accelerates the damage. Faults get diagnosed and fixed first, every time.
DPF warnings, failed regenerations, AdBlue countdowns and short-trip driving patterns. A diesel that never gets hot enough to regenerate needs its filter healthy before more fuel and torque go through it. A remap is not a DPF fix — and never a delete.
Clutch slip, high biting points, dual-mass flywheel rattle and harsh automatic shifts. Extra torque finds weak clutches fast. On autos and DSGs we check the gearbox can accept the new torque figure — sometimes the right answer is a TCU tune alongside.
Mileage, motorway versus school-run, towing and load. A 140k-mile engine can absolutely take a sensible Stage 1 — if it's healthy. Turbo condition and service history matter more than the number on the odometer, so we weigh how the car actually lives.
Manufacturer warranty, PCP or HP finance, lease agreements and insurance. Our files are reversible and your factory backup is saved for life, but dealers can detect a past remap and insurers must be told. We'd rather you knew before you booked.
If Pre-Flight says HOLD, it found something a remap would make worse: an active warning light, a DPF in distress, a slipping clutch, or paperwork that needs sorting first. That's not us turning work away — it's us refusing to flash a calibration onto a car that needs a mechanic before it needs a tuner.
The right next step is a full diagnostic health check — £40, at the Haslingden workshop or at your door. We read live data, find the actual cause and give you a straight answer on what it costs to fix.
Once the car is healthy, the remap conversation restarts from a position of strength: Stage 1 from £150, custom-written for your exact ECU, with your original file backed up for life. Diesel autos can add a DSG/TCU tune, and working vans often suit an economy calibration instead.
This is guidance, not a substitute for a live diagnostic — we still scan every car before any flash. That's the whole point of doing it properly.
Straight answers about what Pre-Flight checks and what the verdict means for your car.
No. An active engine or emissions warning means the ECU is already flagging a fault. We diagnose first — a full vehicle health check is £40 — fix the cause, and only then talk about a remap. Flashing a calibration over an existing fault can mask symptoms and accelerate damage.
No. A blocked DPF or failed regeneration needs diagnosing and fixing before any tuning. A remap is not a DPF delete — removing or disabling emissions equipment is illegal for UK road use and an MOT failure. If Pre-Flight spots DPF distress it will point you to diagnostics, not a remap.
Yes. A Stage 1 adds torque, and extra torque finds weak clutches fast. If your clutch slips, bites high or is an unknown age at high mileage, we flag it before any remap. A clutch that slips under the standard engine will not survive a tuned one.
PCP and HP cars can usually be remapped — the calibration is reversible and your factory file is saved for life — but the car is not fully yours until the finance ends, and dealer tools can log that a remap was present. Leased cars are different: you need written permission from the leasing company before tuning. We explain the honest risks before you book.
About 60 seconds. Enter your registration (or skip it and describe the car), answer eight quick questions and you get a clear verdict: good to go, checks first, or do not remap it. It is free, nothing is booked automatically, and you can share or revisit your result.
No. Pre-Flight is honest guidance built from your answers — it cannot read live data from your ECU. Every Finish Line Remaps job still starts with a plugged-in diagnostic health check before any file is written. If Pre-Flight says HOLD, the £40 diagnostic is the right next step.
